My husband does not let our 9 year old daughter watch her favorite animated series, Kirby Right Back At Ya, because it is not child-friendly after his opinion.
My daughter is really frustrated and angry in him right now. My husband made his choice yesterday, and he is the head of the house.
I asked him why Kirby was not good for children, and he answered me that it was because one of the main characters, Escargon, was a hermaphrodite. We are Christian, and hermaphrodites are against God. My husband told me he didn’t want my daughter to learn about hermaphrodites yet.

That’s ridiculous, it’s a cartoon! They don’t mean for it to look like one, He is being very unfair.
if you feel that you want to put your own imput on this, then maybe you should speak to up him about this. this could lead up to him over powering you in the future about even more important decision.

your husband is right the character is probably a hermaphrodite because it’s a snail but in those shows they don’t come out and say “hey i’m a guy and a girl i don’t have a specific gender!” that i think hes over reacting. also don;t let her watch yin yang yo. theres and ep with a worm and at the end it says that he’s both male and female. also if hermaphodites are against god and god was to have created every thing then why did he create snalis and worms like that? not sayin your religion is wrong just a point to bring up with your husband.
Hermaphrodites against god? God created them too! They didn’t choose to be born that way. I do think he is being unfair.
just ask him to prove that the character is indeed a hermaphrodite if he can’t then tell him to let your daughter watch the series. And he is being unfair it is just a show and i’m pretty sure a 9 year old won’t even know what a hermaphrodite is so its harmless to her
Uuhhhhhhhhhh, what kind of backwards Christian is your husband? The Bible makes no mention of hermaphrodites, thus they cannot be against god.
Doesn’t that make your husband a pretty bad Christian when it’s obvious that he’s never read the Bible. If he did, then he would know that there is not mention of them. You can’t hate a creature created a certain way. Saying hermaphrodites are against god is like saying people born blind are against god.
First off, i just want to point out that you may be in the wrong section.
Secondly, yes, your husband is being a bit unfair, but of course, he has his reasons. Still, it’s still not fair to your kid. As for your daughter, she’s still too young to understand her father’s reasons. Thus, you should be the one acting as the bridge between the two; you are the mother and wife after all. You should talk to your husband that it’s never to early to teach something to a child. Especially when it has something to do with your religion. Keep hiding things from her and she’ll end up trying to learn them on her own; which is more dangerous since no one is there to guide her. I know because I’ve been there, done that. And your kid may seclude herself from you or your husband if this kind of thing keeps going on and she is not free to enjoy herself.
Help them to understand the other.
Yeah he is excuse me from being disrespectful but I think he is f u c k i n g stupid on this subject it’s a kids show girls her age watched dbz back on cn and trust me it was violent compare to other anime shows back in the day and he’s using religion as an excuse that’s dumb as hell Christians watch kirby what’s the difference and I doubt your daughter will learn about hermaphrodites from the show if anything she will probably think it’s just a snail and nothing more.
It does not look like a hermaphrodite. Hermaphrodites are born that way. Your daughter would not know that a snail is not a he or a she, but both! It’s just a snail that talks and acts like a he! She probably does not even know what that word means. I did not even understand where in the world he got it from that it is a hermaphrodite. Either way this is ridiculous, children should be taught being accepting of differences in todays world, maybe our world will become a better place.
Here is what I say to my mom or dad when something likes this happens. “Do you trust me? If you do then, do you believe me when I say that even though I’m reading or watching something where the characters don’t have the best habits that I won’t develop them? I watch this for entertainment, not to learn from.”
So, do you trust your daughter, does your husband? Because if you ask her, I’ll bet she’ll say the same thing as me. A show is for entertainment, not to learn from. And if she does believe that, then do you believe her? If you do then there’s no problem, right? I know your daughter’s only nine but sometimes, if you believe your child is responsible enough, you and your husband have to trust her judgment.
Most invertebrates including snails and worms are hermaphrodites. This is nature and part of “God’s design” as they say. When a human being has these characteristics it is referred to as intersex rather than hermaphroditism. This is caused by various complications during pregnancy and isn’t “what’s supposed to happen” or whatever. Regardless, being an intersexed person does NOT mean that the individual is some sort of abomination on God’s hate list. Would you forbid your child from playing with other children who needed glasses, or were in a wheelchair, had a learning disability, or had different skin color than you? Jesus hung out with all kinds of people including those with diseases and the hated outcasts of society. That’s what it means to be a Christian: to follow Jesus example. To love other people.
As for this cartoon, if the character is a hermaphrodite than it is only being scientifically accurate. To me this looks like a good chance for a learning experience with your daughter. Sit her down and explain to her about the crazy wonderful biological world of snails and slugs and worms. They are complex creations and much more bizarre and interesting than we give them credit for.

But to answer your question – I don’t think your husband is being fair. And I think you have a say in it too. This is the 21st Century, not the 1950s. Besides – even if Escargon is a hermaphrodite, does it actually say it in the show. If your daughter doesn’t know and she won’t find out, then it shouldn’t matter.
i will not blame your husband , but it is a matter to worry . my parents told me one thing that if we stopped some one to watch some thing then she’ll get Curious about it and she will watch without telling you . and that will be the worse thing . just talk to your husband and let her see her favour it anime . she will be happy and under stand that you care about her . and tell Your husband if he don’t get clear with his daughter then this situation might get worse. and no it doesn’t look like hermaphrodite .
Just saying – God made hermaphrodites, so how can hermaphrodites be against God?
