my laptop doesn’t have an hdmi port or an s-video port, but it has a VGA port without the 2 holes on the sideswhere can i find a vga cable that will fit my laptop and i’m pretty sure VGA only covers picture but not audio although i could be wrong. I was told i need to plug some other cord from my headphone jack into another port on my tv. can anyone tell me what i am missing? thanks

You could do a VGA, that would work for video.
You need to get a 1/8th jack to Left-Right Audio with a GROUND LOOP ISOLATOR (or else you’ll get a “hissing” feedback. Learned this the hardway).
Plug in the 1/8th jack to your headphone jack on your lap top, then plug it into the ground loop isolator, then plug it right in the TV using the red and white inputs.
I did this so I could link up my computer sound to my TV and watch movies in surround sound.
You can grab the set with the 1/8th to left-right audio set with the ground loop isolator at Radio Shack for about $15. The title was called “Car Audio Isolator kit” or something stupid like that. Just ask the guy for what I said, and he’ll know what you mean
You could try the bluetooth stuff if your tv has bluetooth, but I wouldn’t mess with that.
**EDIT:
Forgot to mention this, because it took me forever to fix it. After you do all this, you need to go advanced sound options and uncheck “Play DIGITAL AUDIO”. That won’t show up if you don’t have an advanced sound system, so you probably don’t have to worry about it. Just remember that so you don’t almost send the kit back to radio shack. Haha.
